Product Specific Information

MA5-12328 targets Estrogen Receptor in WB, GS, and IP applications and shows reactivity with bovine, human, mouse, rabbit, and rat samples.
By Western blot, MA5-12328 detects recombinant ER alpha, but may not be suitable for detection of endogenous protein.
The MA5-12328 immunogen is purified, SDS-denatured calf uterus estrogen receptor (ER).

Target Information

Estrogen Receptors (ER) are members of the steroid/thyroid hormone receptor superfamily of nuclear receptors.
The estrogen receptor is a ligand-activated transcription factor that, when bound to estrogen, undergoes a conformational change allowing dimerization and binding to estrogen response elements (ERE) in DNA.
This process regulates gene transcription through coactivator or corepressor recruitment.

There are two forms of the estrogen receptor, alpha (ESR1) and beta (ESR2).
At least four isoforms of estrogen receptor-alpha are known:

  • Isoform 1 (66 kDa)
  • Isoform 2 (53 kDa)
  • Isoform 3 (47 kDa)
  • Isoform 4 (35 kDa)

Estrogen receptors are expressed in various tissues and are essential for sexual development, reproductive function, and bone physiology.
They are implicated in diseases such as breast cancer, endometrial cancer, and osteoporosis.
