Target Information
GTP-binding proteins are GTPases functioning as molecular switches that alternate between active (GTP-bound) and inactive (GDP-bound) states. When an extracellular ligand binds to a G-protein-linked receptor, it triggers the exchange of GDP for GTP, activating the protein. The active GTP-bound form transmits signals to downstream targets until GTP is hydrolyzed back to GDP, turning off the signal.
