Target Information
Cytochrome c oxidase (COX) family proteins function as the final electron donor in the respiratory chain, driving a proton gradient across the inner mitochondrial membrane and producing water.
COX15 (cytochrome c oxidase assembly protein COX15 homolog) is a 410 amino acid multi-pass mitochondrial membrane protein of the COX15/ctaA family. It exists as two alternatively spliced isoforms and is predominantly expressed in tissues with high oxidative phosphorylation rates such as brain, heart, and muscle.
Defects in COX15 cause Leigh syndrome and cytochrome c oxidase deficiency (COX deficiency).
