Target Information
The PKLR gene encodes a pyruvate kinase that catalyzes the transphosphorylation of phosphoenolpyruvate into pyruvate and ATP, serving as the rate-limiting step in glycolysis. Mutations or variations in this gene are associated with chronic hereditary nonspherocytic hemolytic anemia (CNSHA or HNSHA). Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
