Target Information
PDGFRA (platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha) is a cell surface receptor tyrosine kinase that binds members of the platelet-derived growth factor family, which are mitogens for mesenchymal-origin cells. The receptor can form homodimers or heterodimers with PDGFRB, depending on the ligand. Knockout mouse studies indicate PDGFRA plays a critical role in kidney development, as heterozygous mice show defective kidney phenotypes.
