Target Information
Fatty acid binding proteins (FABPs) are small (approximately 13–14 kDa) intracellular proteins with a high degree of tissue specificity. FABPs bind long-chain fatty acids and play a key role in intracellular fatty acid utilization.
There are at least six distinct types of FABP, each showing specific tissue expression patterns. FABP leaks rapidly from damaged cells, making it a sensitive marker for cellular injury. Liver FABP is particularly useful for detecting liver cell damage in vitro and in vivo, and serves as a marker for hepatocyte lysis and transplantation-related liver damage.
