Target Information
Slug (SNAI2) is a member of the Snail family of C2H2-type zinc finger transcription factors, involved in epithelial-mesenchymal transitions and neural tube formation during vertebrate embryogenesis. Its transcription can be induced by growth factors such as FGF, BMP, and TGF-beta. Slug binds E-box regions of promoters to repress transcription of genes like E-cadherin and Claudin-1. Expression of Slug in breast, esophageal, and colorectal carcinomas correlates with poor prognosis. Additionally, Slug protects hemopoietic progenitor cells from radiation-induced apoptosis by repressing p53-mediated transcription of Puma.
