Target Information
Polytopic transmembrane protein that inhibits regulated intramembrane proteolysis (RIP) of CREB3L1, thereby inhibiting its activation and collagen synthesis induction (PubMed:25310401, PubMed:27499293).
In response to ceramide, TM4SF20 membrane topology changes stimulate RIP activation of CREB3L1 (PubMed:27499293).
Ceramide reverses transmembrane helix translocation direction during TM4SF20 translation, a mechanism known as regulated alternative translocation (RAT), which modulates transmembrane protein function (PubMed:27499293).
