Target Information
Two distinct signaling pathways activate host innate immunity against viral infection. One pathway relies on Toll-like receptor (TLR) family members, while the other uses RNA helicase RIG-I as a receptor for intracellular viral double-stranded RNA.
MAVS is a mitochondrial membrane protein critical in IFN-beta signaling, recruiting IRF-3 to RIG-I and activating NF-kappa-B. It interacts with innate immune pathway components such as TRIF, TRAF2, TRAF6, and kinases IKK-alpha, IKK-beta, and IKK-iota.
Cleavage of MAVS by Hepatitis C virus protease enables viral immune evasion. Multiple MAVS isoforms are known.
