Target Information
The SYT12 gene is a member of the synaptotagmin gene family and encodes a protein involved in calcium-dependent regulation of membrane trafficking during synaptic transmission. Studies in rats show that the encoded protein modulates spontaneous synaptic-vesicle exocytosis and may also regulate calcium-independent secretion in nonneuronal cells. Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants. Previously referred to as synaptotagmin XI, it has been renamed synaptotagmin XII for consistency with mouse and rat nomenclature.
