Target Information
IDI1 encodes a peroxisomally-localized enzyme that catalyzes the interconversion of isopentenyl diphosphate (IPP) to its isomer, dimethylallyl diphosphate (DMAPP). These compounds serve as substrates for the synthesis of farnesyl diphosphate and ultimately cholesterol.
In peroxisomal deficiency diseases such as Zellweger syndrome and neonatal adrenoleukodystrophy, a reduction in IPP isomerase activity has been observed.
