Target Information
The galectins are a family of beta-galactoside-binding proteins involved in cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions. LGALS3BP levels are elevated in serum of patients with cancer and HIV infection. It is implicated in immune responses associated with NK and LAK cell cytotoxicity. The full-length 90K cDNA is localized to chromosome 17q25. The native protein binds to Mac-2 (a macrophage-associated lectin) and galectin 1.
