Target Information
Tau tubulin kinase (TTBK2) is a serine/threonine kinase whose substrates include tau and tubulin proteins.
Mutations in the TTBK2 gene cause spinocerebellar ataxia type 11 (SCA11), a neurodegenerative disease characterized by progressive ataxia and cerebellar and brainstem atrophy.
Studies indicate that elevated TTBK2 expression in kidney carcinoma and melanoma increases resistance to Sunitinib, while siRNA-mediated reduction of TTBK2 sensitizes these cells to treatment.
This suggests TTBK2 may serve as a resistance marker and potential therapeutic target.
