REG1A는 Reg 유전자 패밀리의 type I subclass 멤버로, 외분비 췌장에서 분비되는 단백질을 암호화합니다. 이 단백질은 췌도 세포 재생 및 당뇨병 발생과 관련이 있으며, 췌장 결석 형성에도 관여할 수 있습니다. Reg 패밀리의 다른 멤버들(REG1B, REGL, PAP 등)은 염색체 2p12 상에 밀집되어 있으며, 동일한 조상 유전자의 중복으로부터 유래한 것으로 추정됩니다.
