Anaplastic Lymphoma Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (ALK) belongs to the insulin receptor superfamily and plays a crucial role in brain development.
Mutations, rearrangements, and amplifications in the ALK gene are associated with tumors such as anaplastic large cell lymphoma, neuroblastoma, and non-small cell lung cancer.
Chromosomal rearrangement often results in a fusion gene between ALK (chromosome 2) and nucleophosmin (chromosome 5), forming the oncogenic NPM-ALK fusion protein.
ALK shares significant sequence similarity with LTK and is essential for neuronal development and signaling.
