Background
The protein encoded by this gene is a G protein-coupled membrane receptor that binds bombesin-like peptides. This binding activates a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system, resulting in physiological effects such as regulation of metabolic rate, glucose metabolism, and hypertension.
