Target Information
FABP7 was initially isolated from a human fetal brain cDNA library and is expressed at low levels in adult brain and muscle tissues. The protein belongs to the fatty acid binding protein (FABP) family, which binds long-chain fatty acids and other hydrophobic ligands, playing roles in fatty acid uptake, transport, and metabolism.
FABP7 is a downstream gene of the Pax6 transcription factor and is essential for maintaining neuroepithelial cells during early cortical development. It is frequently expressed in melanomas, and down-regulation of FABP7 has been shown to reduce cell proliferation and invasion in vitro, suggesting its potential as a diagnostic and therapeutic target.
