Target Information
The Drosophila gene for the ATP synthase epsilon subunit (ATP5E) is known as stunted or sun (Kidd et al., 2005).
Mitochondrial ATP synthase catalyzes ATP synthesis utilizing an electrochemical gradient of protons across the inner membrane during oxidative phosphorylation.
ATP synthase consists of two linked multi-subunit complexes:
- F1: Soluble catalytic core
- Fo: Membrane-spanning component comprising the proton channel
The catalytic portion includes 5 subunits (α, β, γ, δ, ε) with stoichiometry of 3α, 3β, and one each of γ, δ, ε.
The proton channel consists of three main subunits (a, b, c).
