Target Information
Vesicle-mediated protein sorting plays a critical role in segregating intracellular molecules into distinct organelles. Genetic studies in yeast have identified more than 40 vacuolar protein sorting (VPS) genes involved in vesicle transport to vacuoles.
The VPS41 gene encodes the human ortholog of yeast Vps41 protein, conserved across species such as Drosophila, tomato, and Arabidopsis. Expression studies suggest that VPS41 is involved in the formation and fusion of transport vesicles from the Golgi apparatus. Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described, though not all full-length sequences are known.
