Target Information
HSPC142 (BABAM1) is a component of the BRCA1-A complex, which specifically recognizes Lys-63-linked ubiquitinated histones H2A and H2AX at DNA lesion sites. This recognition targets the BRCA1-BARD1 heterodimer to DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs). The BRCA1-A complex also has deubiquitinase activity that removes Lys-63-linked ubiquitin from histones H2A and H2AX.
In this complex, HSPC142 is required for integrity and localization at DSBs. It may also function as a component of the BRISC complex, involved in cleaving Lys-63-linked ubiquitin, helping maintain BRE/BRCC45 stability and supporting BRCC3/BRCC36-mediated deubiquitinase activity.
