Target Information
The DJ-1 gene product belongs to the peptidase C56 family and functions as a positive regulator of androgen receptor-dependent transcription. It may also serve as a redox-sensitive chaperone and oxidative stress sensor, protecting neurons from oxidative damage and cell death. Mutations in DJ-1 are associated with autosomal recessive early-onset Parkinson disease 7. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
