Target Information
The PITSLRE beta1 protein, a member of the Cdk family of protein kinases, induces apoptosis upon low-level ectopic expression. Apoptosis is also induced by an amino-terminal deletion mutant retaining catalytic and carboxy-terminal domains of PITSLRE beta1, but not by mutants lacking Histone H1 kinase activity or other Cdk family members.
The PITSLRE subfamily nomenclature is based on the conserved PSTAIRE box region of Cdc2 p34. Depending on the producing gene, isoforms are designated alpha, beta, or gamma (e.g., PITSLRE A gene → alpha). Some isoforms such as PITSLRE alpha1 (T cells) and beta1 (B cells, brain) show tissue-specific expression, while others are ubiquitous.
