Target Information
CD34 is a highly glycosylated monomeric surface protein (111–115 kDa) expressed on various stem cell populations. It functions as a stem cell marker and may act as a surface receptor involved in receptor-mediated endocytosis, adhesion, differentiation, and proliferation of hematopoietic stem cells and progenitors. CD34 expression indicates specific stages of hematopoietic development and may mediate attachment to bone marrow extracellular matrix or stromal cells. It also serves as a scaffold for lineage-specific glycans and may present carbohydrate ligands to selectins. The intracellular domain can be phosphorylated by activated protein kinase C, suggesting a role in signal transduction. CD34 dysfunction is associated with dermatofibrosarcoma and neurofibroma.
