Target Information
Calnexin (also known as IP90, p88, p90) is an approximately 90 kDa integral membrane protein of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). It functions as a molecular chaperone, assisting in the proper folding and assembly of polypeptides. Calnexin associates with MHC class I heavy chains, partial T cell receptor complexes, and B cell membrane immunoglobulin, but not with fully assembled receptor complexes. It retains misfolded proteins in the ER and lacks the KDEL sequence found in soluble ER proteins. Structurally, Calnexin includes a large ER luminal domain (461 amino acids), a transmembrane segment (22 amino acids), and a cytoplasmic tail (89 amino acids).
