Target Information
Cell-mediated immune responses are initiated by T lymphocytes that are stimulated by peptides bound to MHC molecules on antigen-presenting cells (APC). Activated T cells express inhibitory receptors such as PD-1 (also known as PDCD1), which mediate suppression signals from APCs. PD-1 binds to ligands PDL-1 and PDL-2, and upon binding, inhibits immune activation in the absence of danger signals such as LPS. PD-1 deficiency (PD1−/−) in mice results in hyperactive immune responses and autoimmune diseases. Although its predicted molecular weight is known, PD-1 often migrates at higher molecular weights in SDS-PAGE.
