TNF beta는 종양 괴사 인자(TNF) 패밀리에 속하는 사이토카인으로, 림프구에서 생성됩니다.
이 단백질은 유도성이 높고 분비되며, lymphotoxin-beta와 이합체를 형성하여 세포 표면에 고정됩니다.
염증, 면역 자극, 항바이러스 반응 등 다양한 생리적 기능에 관여하며, 발달 중 2차 림프기관 형성 및 세포사멸 조절에 중요한 역할을 합니다.
또한, 이 유전자의 변이는 나병(type 4) 및 건선성 관절염 감수성과 관련이 있습니다.
