Target Information
The Olfactomedin family comprises a diverse group of secreted glycoproteins, including OLFM1 (Noelin-1), OLFM2 (Noelin-2), OLFM3 (Noelin-3), OLFM4 (Noelin-4), tiarin, pancortin, gliomedin, and myocilin. These proteins are implicated in nervous system development.
OLFM1 and OLFM2 are expressed in the neural plate, neural crest, and cranial ganglia in mouse embryos (E8–10), and later in brain tissue and limb zones of polarizing activity. Overexpression of OLFM1 causes excessive neural crest emigration and prolonged production. OLFM2 regulates anterior nervous system development, and an Arg144Gln mutation in OLFM2 has been linked to open-angle glaucoma (OAG).
