Importin 8은 1037개의 아미노산으로 구성된 핵 단백질로, RAN 결합 부위를 포함합니다. RAN-binding protein 초과가족에 속하며, importin-beta와 공유하는 N-말단 서열 모티프를 통해 RAN GTP 결합에 관여합니다.
핵공복합체(NPC)에 결합하여 리보솜 단백질의 핵 내 수송을 매개하며, RANGTP 및 RANBP1과 함께 RAN GTPase의 GAP 자극을 억제합니다. 또한 transportin과 함께 SRP19의 핵 내 수송에도 관여합니다.
