Target Information

The leucine-rich, glioma inactivated gene 4 (LGI4) belongs to the LGI family, in which LGI1 is the exemplar. This family consists of four highly related proteins containing leucine-rich repeats (LRRs), similar to transmembrane signaling molecules and receptors.
LGI1 has been identified as a candidate tumor suppressor gene for glioma and plays a role in autosomal dominant lateral temporal epilepsy (ADTLE). Although LGI4 shares high homology and similar expression patterns with LGI1, mutations in LGI4 have not been linked to ADTLE. The LGI4 gene is located in a region associated with benign familial infantile convulsions, and certain polymorphisms have been correlated with childhood absence epilepsy. Reduced LGI4 expression has been shown to inhibit myelination in cultured cells, suggesting a role in neural development.
