Target Information
The EYA4 gene encodes a member of the eyes absent (EYA) family of proteins. The encoded protein may act as a transcriptional activator through its protein phosphatase activity and is important for eye development and auditory function. Mutations in EYA4 are associated with postlingual, progressive, autosomal dominant hearing loss (non-syndromic sensorineural deafness 10 locus) and dilated cardiomyopathy 1J. The protein also functions as a putative oncogene involved in DNA repair, apoptosis, and innate immunity. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms.
