Target Information
Muscle myosin is a hexameric protein containing two heavy chain subunits, two alkali light chain subunits, and two regulatory light chain subunits. The MYH7 gene encodes the beta (slow) heavy chain subunit of cardiac myosin, predominantly expressed in the human ventricle and in skeletal muscle rich in slow-twitch type I fibers.
Alterations in MYH7 expression correlate with cardiac contractile velocity and are affected by thyroid hormone depletion and hemodynamic overloading.
Mutations in MYH7 are associated with familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, myosin storage myopathy, dilated cardiomyopathy, and Laing early-onset distal myopathy.
