Target Information
Caldesmon is a developmentally regulated protein involved in smooth muscle and non-muscle contraction. Two closely related variants of human caldesmon have been identified, differing in electrophoretic mobility and cellular distribution.
- h-caldesmon (120–150 kDa): Expressed predominantly in smooth muscle
- l-caldesmon (70–80 kDa): Found in non-muscle tissue and cells
Neither variant is detected in skeletal muscle.
