Target Information
Retinoic acid-inducible gene I (RIG-I) is a pattern recognition receptor (PRR) that detects viral double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) and activates the innate immune response. Together with MDA5, RIG-I mediates recognition of viral RNA and triggers signaling through IPS-1, leading to activation of NF-kappaB and IRF-3, apoptosis, cytokine signaling, and inflammation.
RIG-I is critical for immune signaling against viruses such as influenza A and B, human respiratory syncytial virus, paramyxoviruses, Japanese encephalitis virus, and West Nile virus. MicroRNA-146a negatively regulates RIG-I-dependent antiviral responses by targeting TRAF6, IRAK1, and IRAK2. Additionally, RIG-I has been implicated in the detection of cytosolic DNA through RNA polymerase III activity.
