Target Information
Protein kinase C (PKC) is a family of serine- and threonine-specific protein kinases activated by calcium and diacylglycerol. PKC family members phosphorylate various protein targets and are involved in diverse cellular signaling pathways. They act as major receptors for phorbol esters, known tumor promoters. Each PKC isoform has distinct expression patterns and cellular roles, including B cell activation, apoptosis induction, endothelial cell proliferation, and intestinal sugar absorption. Studies also suggest roles in neuronal functions and stress-related behavioral regulation. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported.
