Target Information
Cytochrome P450 super family proteins are monooxygenases catalyzing various biochemical reactions related to drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids, and lipids.
CYP4F3, a 60 kDa protein, is a novel member of this family with a conserved heme-binding domain near the C-terminus and catalyzes the ω-hydroxylation of LTB4.
It is localized in the ER and plays a crucial role in inactivating LTB4 and controlling inflammation.
CYP4F3 exists in two isoforms:
- CYP4F3A: Neutrophil isoform expressed in neutrophils and myeloid cells; catalyzes microsomal ω-hydroxylation of LTB4 and regulates bone marrow cell development.
- CYP4F3B: Liver isoform; catalyzes conversion of arachidonic acid to 20-HETE, a potent PKC activator involved in cell proliferation, vascular tone, and natriuresis.
