Background
Ribosomes are organelles that catalyze protein synthesis, consisting of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits are composed of 4 RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins. The RPL37 gene encodes a component of the 60S subunit and belongs to the L37E family. It is located in the cytoplasm and contains a C2C2-type zinc finger-like motif. Multiple processed pseudogenes of this gene are dispersed throughout the genome. (RefSeq, Jul 2008)
