Background
Ribosomes are organelles responsible for protein synthesis, composed of a small 40S and a large 60S subunit. The RPL11 gene encodes a component of the 60S subunit belonging to the L5P family. It localizes mainly in the cytoplasm and nucleolus, interacting with 5S rRNA. Multiple processed pseudogenes of RPL11 are dispersed throughout the genome.
