배경 (Background)

Protein kinase C epsilon (PRKCE) is a member of the PKC family of serine/threonine kinases activated by calcium and diacylglycerol. PKC family members phosphorylate various protein targets and participate in diverse signaling pathways. They also serve as receptors for phorbol esters, a class of tumor promoters.
PRKCE is involved in multiple cellular functions including neuronal channel activation, apoptosis, cardioprotection from ischemia, heat shock response, and insulin exocytosis. Mouse knockout studies suggest its role in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-mediated signaling in activated macrophages.
