NIPA2는 선택적 Mg(2+) 수송체로 작용하는 단백질을 암호화합니다. 이 유전자는 Prader-Willi 증후군 결실 영역의 인쇄 도메인 인접부에 위치하며, 대체 스플라이싱으로 여러 전사체 변형을 생성합니다. NIPA2 유전자의 유사유전자는 염색체 3, 7, 21에 존재합니다.
NIPA2 관련 질환으로는 Angelman Syndrome과 Prader-Willi Syndrome이 보고되어 있습니다.
