Target Information
G protein-coupled receptor GPR49 (also known as LGR5) is expressed in brain, skeletal muscle, placenta, and spinal cord. ESTs have been isolated from normal human brain (amygdala), embryo, and placenta libraries, as well as from human germ cell, uterus, and brain libraries.
G-protein Coupled Receptors (GPCRs) form one of the largest families of signaling molecules, sharing a structural motif of seven membrane-spanning helices. They exist in both active and inactive forms, and their activation triggers signaling via G-proteins and downstream effectors.
Regulation of GPCR activity plays a key role in cellular physiology and pharmacological research, with several GPCR-targeted drugs such as Zyprexa and Claritin achieving significant clinical and commercial success.
