Target Information

This gene is an ortholog of the Drosophila fat gene, which encodes a tumor suppressor essential for controlling cell proliferation during Drosophila development. The gene product belongs to the cadherin superfamily, characterized by cadherin-type repeats. It contains 34 tandem cadherin-type repeats, five EGF-like repeats, and one laminin A-G domain. The gene is highly expressed in several fetal epithelia and likely functions as an adhesion molecule and/or signaling receptor, playing a critical role in developmental processes and cell communication. Transcript variants from alternative splicing or promoter usage exist but are not fully described.
