Target Information

This gene encodes a protein that is part of the NuRD (nucleosome remodeling deacetylase) complex located in the nucleus of human cells. It is broadly expressed and strongly present in many tissues. The gene family may encode related proteins involved in transcriptional regulation, either directly or indirectly through chromatin remodeling.
It is closely related to another family member associated with metastatic potential in certain carcinomas. Both proteins share similar domains, including DNA binding, dimerization, and methylation-related domains.
One known target of this gene product is p53, whose deacetylation correlates with loss of growth inhibition in transformed cells, suggesting a link between these proteins and metastasis.
