Target Information

HIP2 accepts ubiquitin from the E1 complex and catalyzes its covalent attachment to other proteins.
In vitro, it catalyzes the synthesis of Lys-48-linked polyubiquitin chains, mediates selective degradation of short-lived and abnormal proteins, and ubiquitinates huntingtin.
It may mediate foam cell formation by suppressing apoptosis of lipid-bearing macrophages through ubiquitination and degradation of p53/TP53.
HIP2 is proposed to be involved in ubiquitination and proteolytic processing of NF-kappa-B and may support ubiquitination of NFKB1.
During viral infections, it may participate in degradation of MHC class I heavy chains and RB1 depending on viral proteins.
