Target Information
The Ras-related superfamily of guanine nucleotide-binding proteins includes the R-Ras, Rap, Ral/Rec, and Rho/Rab subfamilies. Rab proteins play key roles in endocytosis and biosynthetic protein transport, mediating the movement of carrier vesicles between the endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi complex, and secretory vesicles.
Rab23 (also known as HSPC137) is a 237-amino-acid member of the Rab family localized to the cytoplasmic side of the cell membrane. It is involved in intracellular protein transport and small GTPase-mediated signal transduction.
Mutations in the Rab23 gene are associated with Carpenter syndrome (ACPS2), a condition characterized by obesity, cardiac defects, polysyndactyly, and craniosynostosis.
