Target Information
Muscle myosin is a hexameric protein composed of two heavy chain subunits, two alkali light chain subunits, and two regulatory light chain subunits.
This gene encodes the beta (or slow) heavy chain subunit of cardiac myosin, expressed predominantly in normal human ventricle and in skeletal muscle tissues rich in slow-twitch type I fibers.
Alterations in MYH7 expression are associated with changes in cardiac contractile velocity and are influenced by thyroid hormone levels and hemodynamic stress.
Mutations in MYH7 are linked to familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, myosin storage myopathy, dilated cardiomyopathy, and Laing early-onset distal myopathy.
