Target Information
VPS26A belongs to a group of vacuolar protein sorting (VPS) genes. The encoded protein is a component of the retromer complex, which mediates retrograde transport of proteins from endosomes to the trans-Golgi network. The structural similarity between yeast and human retromer components suggests functional conservation. Studies show direct interaction between VPS26A and VPS35, the core of the retromer complex. Alternative splicing produces multiple isoforms.
