Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family, which are signaling molecules regulating various cellular processes such as growth, differentiation, mitotic cycle, and oncogenic transformation. This gene is preferentially expressed in hematopoietic cells and acts as an early response gene in lymphokine-stimulated cells. The noncatalytic N-terminus interacts with MAP kinases to suppress their activity and is involved in T cell antigen receptor signaling through dephosphorylation of MAP kinase pathway-related molecules. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
