Target Information
Heme oxygenase는 heme 대사에 필수적인 효소로, heme을 biliverdin으로 절단하며, biliverdin은 biliverdin reductase에 의해 bilirubin으로 전환된다. 또한 carbon monoxide는 신경전달물질로 작용할 수 있다.
이 효소는 substrate heme 및 다양한 비-heme 물질에 의해 유도된다. Heme oxygenase에는 유도성 heme oxygenase-1(HMOX1)과 항상성 heme oxygenase-2(HMOX2)의 두 가지 isozyme이 존재한다.
HMOX1과 HMOX2는 heme oxygenase 패밀리에 속하며, 여러 alternative splicing으로 인해 세 가지 isoform을 암호화하는 다양한 전사 변형체가 보고되어 있다.
