LSM14A는 Sm 단백질 패밀리와의 서열 상동성을 기반으로 다양한 생물에서 확인된 Sm-like 단백질군에 속합니다. Sm-like 단백질은 두 개의 Sm 서열 모티프를 가지며, 이들은 가변 길이의 루프 형태 연결부로 분리되어 있습니다. 이러한 단백질들은 pre-mRNA 스플라이싱에 중요한 tri-snRNP 입자 내에서 안정적인 이합체를 형성하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
