Target Information
The Ras-related superfamily of guanine nucleotide binding proteins, which includes the R-Ras, Rap, Ral/Rec, and Rho/Rab subfamilies, exhibit 30–60% homology with Ras p21. Rab proteins play a key role in endocytosis and biosynthetic protein transport, mediating vesicle movement between the endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi complex, and secretory vesicles. Rab proteins may also direct exocytosis from secretory vesicles to the plasma membrane, as supported by studies on yeast SEC4 protein, which shares 40% homology with Rab proteins.
